Combination Dual Fiber (Polypropylene - Polyester)

Marina Maxi

Marina Maxi is a product of superior technology surpassing properties of normal polypropylene rope with a very high strength to weight ratio, it allows for substantial size reduction, ease in handling and an overall economic solution. The technically reinforced composition of High Grade Synthetic Compound with Polyester and Polypropylene retains the superior breaking strength. This ideal composition and construction creates extremely low elongation that offers stability during usage.

Test Procedure

Cyclical loading test

The cyclical loading test is performed at defined levels of loading in wet conditions. The rope sample is loaded with the prescribed number of cycles at individual levels of loading at a prescribed rate until the sample breaks or 2000 cycles at an 80% level of loading is achieved. The achieved number of cycles is used to calculate the TCLL level of loading at which the rope would break at 1000 cycles. The test course is continuously recorded by means of a computer and the final test report is based on this computerized record.

The test equipment is specially designed to test ropes made of synthetic materials which will be used in applications that require cyclical loading. This prototype rope testing for determination of the TCLL value is specified in OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) guidelines.

Elongation Test

Total stretch represents the entire length change in a new rope when placed under a given stress (load) and includes the non-recoverable, recoverable overtime and immediately recoverable portions of extension. One of the variables affecting percentages of elongation is intermittent loading vs. sustained loading; plotted graphically, the curves are somewhat different.

Two points are marked on the Marina Maxi Rope by tightly knotting two pieces of strings 30” apart. The rope is put under a load of 20% of its breaking strength and the elongation is less than 15% between the two knots. When the rope is relaxed the distance between the two knots measures 34-1/2” and the string is taut.

(30”+0.15x30 = 34-1/2")

PERCENTAGE ELONGATION (STRETCH) OF PP POLYESTER ROPE

Physical characteristics

  • Floats on Water
  • High Breaking Strength
  • High Abrasion Resistance
  • High Shock Absorption
  • No Loss of Strength When Wet
  • Low Weight-Easy Handling
  • Very Low Snap-Back Effect
  • Low Elongation

Applications

  • Mooring Lines for 0.1 Tanker
  • Towing Lines
  • Anchoring Lines
  • SPM Hawsers
  • Messenger Lines
  • Offshore Applications

Conclusion

If the string would have snapped out then we know that the rope has been loaded more than the breaking strength. Also if the distance between the two points is more than 34-1/2" then the elongation would be more than 15%, both are not the case with Axiom ropes.
